Colchester United striker Micah Mbick has been named the Sky Bet League Two Goal of the Month winner for October after scoring a stunning goal that showcased his flair, technique, and fearless attacking instinct.
The 19-year-old’s goal came in an exciting display of skill and composure as he lifted the ball over a defender, spun around, and then repeated the move to delicately chip the ball over Grimsby Town goalkeeper Christy Pym. The moment perfectly captured Mbick’s attacking qualities and earned him recognition from both fans and pundits.
On hearing the news of his award, Mbick said, “This is just a testament to how we are as a team. We’re an exciting team attacking-wise, we can score in lots of different ways, and with that goal, I was able to show a bit of quality.” He added, “A great moment for me. As a striker, it’s my job to affect those areas and do the best for the team.”
Colchester United manager Danny Cowley praised Mbick’s remarkable finish, stating, “It was a great goal, a brilliant goal. It just showed his athleticism and power, and also his technical quality to bring the touch out of the sky, then to turn and have the presence of mind and the execution to lift the ball over the onrushing goalkeeper. I thought it was an incredible goal.”
Don Goodman, lead Sky Bet EFL Goal of the Month judge and Sky Sports pundit, also lauded Mbick’s performance: “Micah Mbick showed brilliance, tenacity, and desire to turn what was a hopeful ball up the pitch into a goal for his side. A magnificent first touch bamboozled the defender, before he confidently lifted the ball over the onrushing keeper.”
Mbick triumphed over tough competition from Crewe Alexandra’s Max Sanders, Accrington Stanley’s Paddy Madden, and Tranmere Rovers’ Charlie Whitaker. The winners of the Sky Bet EFL Goals of the Month are selected through a combination of expert panel reviews and a public vote.
Mbick’s award-winning goal highlights the rising star’s potential and his growing importance in Colchester United’s attacking lineup. With his blend of skill and confidence, the young striker is one to watch this season in English football.
