Multiple reports suggest that the Teranga Lions of Senegal will play a prestigious friendly match against England in June 2025. The match, scheduled during the FIFA international break, is expected to serve as a key test for both teams as they prepare for upcoming international competitions.

According to the Athletics, the Football Association has invited the Teranga Lions to be the opposition for the post-season match which will give new manager Thomas Tuchel the opportunity to learn more about the players he inherited from Gareth Southgate.

If all the details are finalized, the game will take place on June 10, three days after England play Andorra away from home in the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers. It will mark the first time the Three Lions have played at the home ground of Nottingham Forest since a friendly against Wales in 1941.

The encounter between England and Senegal marks a highly anticipated rematch following England’s 3-0 victory over Senegal in the Round of 16 at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. With both teams aiming to sharpen their squads ahead of major tournaments, the game is expected to be intense and competitive.

The Teranga Lions of Senegal, the 2021 AFCON holders, have been steadily strengthening their reputation on the global stage. The team boasts a squad full of stars, including Sadio Mané, Kalidou Koulibaly, and Edouard Mendy.

The clash against England, one of Europe’s top footballing nations, will provide Senegal with an opportunity to measure itself against elite opposition and fine-tune tactics ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

Pape Thiaw’s side will face Sudan and Togo in their own 2026 World Cup qualifiers in March. They are currently second in Group B with 8 points, two points behind Sudan. In the first game, Senegal claimed a 4-0 win over South Sudan before pulling a 0-0 draw against Togo on matchday 2. On matchday 4, Senegal were held to a 1-1 draw by DR Congo.

In addition to the England fixture, the FSF is actively looking for another world-class opponent for the same period. Senegal’s football authorities aim to secure a second high-profile friendly that will further test the squad’s readiness for future challenges.

The official date and venue for the Senegal versus England match will be confirmed soon. For Senegal, these friendlies represent more than just exhibition matches – they are a statement of intent as the team aims to solidify its place among the world’s footballing elite.
