Mbeumo returns in Brentford’s defeat to Burnley

Bryan Mbeumo made a notable return to Brentford’s lineup after four months sidelined due to injury, entering the fray against Burnley in the Premier League match day 29 on Saturday.

The Cameroonian international came in as substitute at the 78th minute, before being substituted ten minutes later. This is his first minutes in exactly four months ten days.

His last appearance for the Bees was on December 6, 2023, against Brighton, where he scored before being forced off with an injury.

An injury that has seen him miss out of Brentford’s 15 games across all competitions and the 2023 Africa cup of nations with the Cameroon national team in January .

The match at Turf Moor saw Brentford suffer a narrow 2-1 defeat, with Burnley’s early penalty converted by Jacob Bruun Larsen and a second goal from Datro Fofana.

Kristoffer Ajer’s goal narrowed the deficit to 2-1. This is Brentford’s twelve defeat since December 6, they are now 15th on the league table with 26 points, only five points clear of relegation.

Before Saturday’s game, Thomas Frank, Bryan’s coach, highlighted the significance of his comeback to the squad’s dynamics.

“He was on track for a really remarkable season. Everyone wants those good numbers for offensive players in terms of goals and assists.” He said.

In 16 appearances this season, Mbeumo has netted seven goals three assists

Brentford is currently facing a rough patch, with over five players down with injury, including captain Christian Norgaard.
