55-year-old Kazuyoshi Miura of Japanese nationality, has completed a switch from Yokohama FC, to Oliveirense of the Portuguese second division, on a temporal basis.
The six month loan deal for the former Japanese international, presents a new adventure for the forward, in a career that has sprung over 35 years, through six countries and 16 clubs.
Known popularly as “King Kazu”, the living legend doesn’t just hold the record for the oldest active player, but also the record for the oldest player to score in a Japanese Professional League game, with his 2017 goal against Thespakusatu Gunma, aged 50 years and 14 days.
With his 56th birthday just around the corner (Feb 26th), Kazuyoshi has hinted at playing until 60, after spending last season on loan with Suzuka Point Getters of the Japanese 4th tier, scoring two goals in 18 outings.
Following his latest stop in Portugal, the player has promised to work hard in the colors of his new club.
“Even though this is a new place for me, I’ll work hard to show everyone the kind of player I’m known for”, Kazuyoshi told the BBC.
Remarkably, King Kazu is still worth €100K as per Transfermarkt, after scoring 259 goals for club and country in his long career.
Oliveirense currently sit comfortably in 9th position on the league table, but in their quest to continue the climb, surely, Kazuyoshi will be of great importance.
