Central Africa Republic will finally set the ball rolling for the postponed 2023 edition of the Union of Central African football Federation (UNIFFAC) competition on Tuesday, February 13 at the Annexe of the Bepanda Omnisport stadium.
The 15:30 kick-off is expected to be the pacesetter for both nations who are hoping to take advantage of the non-affiliation holders Equatorial Guinea, usual suspect DR Congo to write their own names in the history of the competition.
Ahead of the game, Central Africa Republic defender, Wessethon Dangoro Chancie has told the media that her country’s team for Tuesday’s U-20 girls tournament opener against their Cameroonian counterparts has left her unfazed by the temperatures of the city and are ready to give the hosts a run for their money.
Wessethon was oozing confidence as she responded to questions from the Media ahead of the first game of the competition after a three-year forced sabbatical.
Quizzed whether she is worried about the temperatures and if it will be an advantage for Cameroon, the 16-year-old defender played down the impact of the environmental factors.
“Yes we are in Douala, but I must tell you, these temperatures don’t change anything. We are acquainted with similar conditions and are adapting. When a team is on the road, we have to quickly adapt to the temperature and other factors,” Wessethon concluded.
Wessethon and the rest of the Central Africa Republic squad represented their country during last weekend’s U-17 FIFA World Cup qualifiers tie defeat against their Nigerian counterparts and will be hoping to use this three nations tournament to rebuild their confidence.
Wessethon and her defensive colleagues, if not the whole squad managed by coach Niamathe Leduc has to be at their best to get the better of the Hassan Ibrahim Balla led Cameroon side.
Central Africa Republic will open the competition on Tuesday, February 13 with an interesting clash against Cameroon that is fresh from a maiden FIFA World Cup qualification obtained after getting the better of Egypt in the final round of the qualifiers.
Cameroon will play their second game of the competition on Wednesday, February 14 against Congo Republic who are on standby on match day one.
