The captain of the Equatorial Guinea national football team, the Nzalang Nacional, who finished as top scorer in the just ended Africa Cup of Nations in Cote D’Ivoire have announced his retirement from international football.

This decision comes after the player was suspended by the Equato-guinean football federation after AFCON 2023 for what they termed ‘indiscipline’.

In response, Nsue took to his Instagram, and accused the football authorities of financial mismanagement and corruption.

On Tuesday February 20, 2024, Nsue announced his retirement from international football putting an end to his era in football in that part of the country.

The 34-year-old’s remarkable contributions were highlighted by his five goals in four matches, including a hat trick against the hosts in a 4#0 victory in the group stage.

It should be noted that Emilio Nsue in 2012 turned down an offer to represent Equatorial Guinea in the AFCON because he was hoping to be part of the Spanish Olympic squad team. In March 2013, he signed a contract with the Equatoguinean Football Federation (FEGUIFUT), committing himself to attend all call-ups in which he was included.

Between 2013 to 2024, Nsue made 44 appearances for Equatorial Guinea and scored 22 goals.
