  • Emerse Faé won three and drew one of four games in charge at the 34th edition of the AFCON
  • President Idriss Diallo has offered him his first full opportunity as head coach of a senior football team
  • Faé was understudy to Gasset for two years before switching to interim coach and eventually winning the AFCON

President Idriss Diallo of the Ivorian Football Federation (FIF) has confirmed 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) winning trainer as the permanent lead coach, Emerse Faé of the Elephants of Côte D’Ivoire.

The announcement was made on Monday, February 18 on the sidelines of an event with Orange Côte D’Ivoire who are a main sponsor of the Elephants.

Faé defied all odds when he took over from Frenchman Jean-Louis Gasset after a below par group stage performance and stirred his nation to a third AFCON success, on home soil.

The 40-year-old had been tipped by many to be maintained as head coach of the team after the miraculous feat achieved alongside former international colleagues Guy Demel and Bonaventure Kalou.

“I wish to make an announcement . Emerse Faé who was interim coach before now has been confirmed as head coach of the Elephants of Côte D’Ivoire. I make this announcement exclusively here at the Orange building,” president Diallo announced one of his most popular decisions.

In four games in charge of the national team, Faé demonstrated aptitude to bring out the best in the squad that defeated holders Senegal, Mali, two-time winners DR Congo and Nigeria in the running to claim their third continental title.

Faé capacity to manage the star-studded dressing room will be put to test in the months ahead as the Côte D’Ivoire prepares for the 2025 AFCON qualifiers plus the same event for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The former FC Nantes and Reading FC midfielder has the public on side and the dressing room too.

Results will enable he settles and continuously attract attention from the local and international media for his works.
