UMS of Loum has picked up three more points in Matchday eight of the MTN elite one championship after a 2-1 win over Avion Academy of Douala through Collins Achete and Jeumis Konby, with Ewoome Hongla scoring the lone goal for the host.

Played this Wednesday, December 21 at the Bepanda annex before a jam-packed stadium, the boys from Loum took the lead in the 16th minute of play.

After fruitless fifteen minutes in search of a goal from both sides pressing hard on each other, Collins Ashi Achete opened scores, taking advantage of a defensive blunder to put UMS ahead.

Tehoyi Ginola missed a glaring one-on-one chance with the goalkeeper of UMS that caused him to fail to get the equalizer after a lot of pressing on the opponent’s side of the pitch.

All attempts from Avion to get an equalizer seemed but in vain as the first segment of the game separated on a 1-0 scoreline

Looking so convincing to take charge of the second half, Avion pressed until about five minutes of regular time left in the game to pull back the equalizing goal, thanks to a header inside the 18m box from Henga Ewoome, a goal orchestrated from a free kick.

Just when the players of Avion thought a point was better than nothing, second half substitute, Jeumis Konby scored the second for UMS.

This brought the score line to  2-1, canceling Avion’s hope of backing home a point at least after seven games played, winning just one and recording three draws.

Avion was faced with a much bigger challenge when their mask man, Pange Lobe was unceremoniously brought down which saw him lose consciousness on the pitch, and was hastily rushed to the hospital for medical attention.

This demoralizing situation a few minutes to the end of the encounter saw a traumatized Avion side who looked to have given up already and the six additional minutes was nothing near enough to get a consolatory one point.

Avion sits second to the last in pool A with five points. Meanwhile, UMS has gone up to second position with now 13 points.
