Bamboutos FC of Mbouda became the first of four clubs to qualify for the title playoff in the 2022/23 Cameroon Elite One championship following their 1-1 draw against Astre and Fovu’s 1-2 defeat to APEJES on Saturday.
The Mangwa Boys had to dig deep to earn a point, coming from behind to equalize deep into the contest which the Brazilians of Bepanda were ahead for most of the afternoon.
The latest point picked up by Yves Clement Arroga’s team takes their tally for the season to 34 points, six points better than Fovu of Baham and APEJES of Mfou after the latter beat the former 2-1 on Saturday.
The present standing makes it impossible for Bamboutos FC to finish the championship out of the top two positions, thus securing a spot in the playoffs.
It’s the first time Bamboutos qualifies for the playoff in the abridged championship format since it started four years ago.
The Mangwa Boys are chasing an improvement in their best ever finish (third place) achieved in 2018 under Andre Anicet Mbarga Foe as head coach.
