Yong Sports Academy (YOSA) of Bamenda will be without Ekoi Manfred Mekumba this Friday when they face Eding Sport de la Lekie in the MTN Elite One championship relegation playoff game at the Bonamoussadi stadium.

The Northwest outfit have been deprived of the 20-year-old U17 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) winning goalkeeper who suffered an ankle sprain while training with his boyhood club during the end of season break in Limbe.

Ekoi, first choice keeper throughout most of the current season hasn’t recovered or returned to YOSA since their last game against Astres of Douala last month.

Coach Kamguia Justin, Ndikum Blaise and the rest of the YOSA squad have in the past two weeks built their survival hopes around other goalkeeper options with hopes of having enough to go all the way in the cliffhanger against the 2017 champions who were dragged into the relegation playoff debate by Avion Academy’s litigation triumph against UMS of Loum.

YOSA was promoted to the top-flight championship in 2009. They have spent 14 years at the big time while Eding has been around since 2015. Both sides have their Elite One lives on the line and are hoping to avoid being the fifth club to be relegated from this season’s championship.

YAFOOT FC, Renaissance FC of Ngoumou, Dragon Yaounde and Djiko FC have been relegated after they finished in the bottom two positions of their groups.
