Cameroonian assistant Referee Atezambong Carine Fomo has been appointed Video Assistant Referee (VAR) for the 14th Edition U17 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final scheduled this Friday at the Nelson Mandela stadium in Baraki, Algeria.

The season female Referee has been included in the ladies dominated team of officials for the Morocco versus Senegal game that also has Diane Chikoteshia of Zambia and Mali’s Fanta Idrissa Kone.

The game will be the fourth for Carine in the competition and her second as VAR, in what has been a dream first U17 AFCON.

Carine was part of the officiating crew for two group stage matches, the quarter-final, semi-final and the upcoming final.

She is one of nine crew of match officials to be led by Gabon’s Tanguy Patrice Mebiame during the event expected to produce the new African champions.

The 10PM kick-off will be Carine’s fourth final in a CAF competition. She was assistant Referee during the 2020 African Nations Championship (CHAN) final, the 2022 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (AWCON) final and the 2023 Women’s CAF Champions League final.

Carine, Fanta and Diane join Salima Mukasanga on the plane to New Zealand for the 2023 FIFA World Cup later this year. That tournament will be her tenth major tournament in what has been a glittering career.
