Cameroonian defender Che Malone will be targeting another major continental milestone when USM Alger take on South African giants Mamelodi Sundowns in the 2026 TotalEnergies CAF Super Cup at Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Pretoria on Sunday, November 8.

The former Cotonsport of Garoua defender is expected to be an important figure as the Algerian outfit seeks to crown an impressive continental campaign with another trophy. Malone has established himself as part of USM Alger’s defensive options since joining the club in 2025, bringing valuable African club competition experience from his previous spell with Tanzanian giants Simba SC.

The 27-year-old played a significant role in USM Alger’s successful 2025/26 CAF Confederation Cup campaign, featuring in 12 matches and accumulating 1,080 minutes. He also found the back of the net during the group stage against Ivorian side FC San Pedro, underlining his ability to contribute beyond his primary defensive responsibilities.

For Malone, Sunday’s encounter presents an opportunity to add another prestigious honour to his growing collection. USM Alger arrive in Pretoria as Confederation Cup champions after overcoming Egyptian giants Zamalek in a dramatic penalty shootout in the final, while Sundowns qualified after winning the CAF Champions League against Morocco’s AS FAR.

The Cameroonian defender and his teammates will, however, face a formidable challenge against a Sundowns side playing on home soil and determined to secure their second CAF Super Cup title. USM Alger, who previously lifted the trophy in 2023 after defeating Al Ahly, are equally motivated to repeat that success and reinforce their status among Africa’s elite clubs.

With USM Alger’s defensive organisation likely to be tested by Sundowns’ attacking quality, Malone’s composure, physical presence and continental experience could prove crucial. A victory would give the Cameroonian another opportunity to celebrate on Africa’s biggest club stage and further strengthen his growing reputation in African football.

The encounter kicks off at 15:00 local time (13:00 GMT) on Sunday, with the winners set to receive US$500,000.
