  • Priso Eyango scored twice early on as Canon won 2-1 at home
  • The Intermediate Lions’ forward curled in a stunning opener after four minutes for Canon’s first
  • Eyango then scored his second goal of the season just six minutes before the break
  • Achille Yenang halved Colombe’s deficit with a strike 10 minutes from time
  • Colombe have not won in the Championship since last December 31

Eyango Priso struck two first-half goals to lead Canon Yaoundé to a 2-1 win at home to Colombe of Dja on Wednesday in their first MTN Elite One outing of the season that extended the visitors winless run in the league to 11 games.

Colombe Dja’s hope of finally winning a league game this year were completely dashed by a superb Eyango whose form in the final third was second to none.

Eyango started the scoring with a superb strike four minutes into the match at the Ngoa Ekelle stadium. The intermediate Lions’ striker stunned Canon when he used one touch to send a pass from Ngong Neville curling into the far corner of the net.

Six minutes before the break, Eyango struck again to complete his first brace of the season, as he extended the advantage to 2-0.

On another day, Eyango – Canon’s 7 – would have had a first-half hat-trick as he was played through behind the defence on the stroke of half-time only this time he was denied by Nfor Idriss.

The hosts would come again, and when Fils Abanda played through Eyango on goal, he ought to have scored but somehow contrived to scuff his effort wide.

Both sides had chances in the second-half, but the first-half goals from Eyango proved to be the difference.

Achille Yenang halved the deficit in borrowed time for Colombe but it was too little too late for coach Ndongo Emma’s side as Canon held on for their first win of the season.

The results means Colombe fans will keep waiting for their first win in the league since the 3-1 win against Canon Yaoundé on December 31, 2022.

Canon will host PWD on Sunday while Colombe is up against Union Sportive of Douala on match day two of the championship.
