Bayern Munich forward Eric Maxim Choupo Moting will miss Cameroon’s 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier matches against Namibia at home and away after failing to recover from a back problem in time, kic442.com has gathered from prolific reporter Marc Chouamo.
The striker has missed Bayern’s last two games against Augsburg and Bayer Leverkusen in a bid to cure a problem that has dogged him for the past two weeks, and he could be out for up to a month.
The Cameroon international and fifth all-time top scorer in the history of the Indomitable Lions is unavailable for the matches on March 25 in Yaounde and 28 in Pretoria.
He could be replaced by another player if the national team staff consider it necessary to do so.
Choupo has been Bayern’s main man this season. Though not noted for scoring many goals in a game, the former PSG, Stoke City and Schalke 04 goal getter is his club’s lead scorer this campaign with 17 goals and three assists in 26 games across all competitions.
Choupo switched sporting allegiance to Cameroon 13 years ago and has gone on to score 22 goals in 74 caps.
Aboubakar Vincent, one of the top scorer at the moment will miss the first game in Yaounde, owing to a suspension dating back to the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
