Celebrated Cameroonian Referee Atezambong Carine Fomo has picked up another gold medal for her exploits at the 2013 U17 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) that climaxed on Friday with Senegal as champions following a 2-1 win against Morocco.

Carine in her maiden U17 AFCON tournament reached new heights as she featured in a record five games during the competition – including the quarter-final, semi-final and the final.

The 37-year-old native of Dschang in the West Region Cameroon was part of the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) team in the final and the quarter-final, adding to three games in which she was assistant Referee across the two-weeks tournament.

Just like it was after the final of the 2020 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN), the 2022 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations (AWCON) and the 2022 Women’s CAF Champions League the gifted Cameroonian Referee was decorated by CAF at the end of the tournament.

Carine has been has picked up a medal in four of the nine major tournaments she has participated in what has been a reference career and could provide even more later this year at the women’s FIFA World Cup.

The transformed Judoka is one of the FIFA Referees shortlisted for the Women’s football frenzy planned for this August in Australia and New Zealand.

She became the first and only Cameroonian woman to operate in the VAR room during the 2022 AWCON tournament last June-July in Morocco.

Carine is the only Woman in history to have been Referee at the U17 AFCON, CHAN, Senior men and Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.

Carine made her tournament debut at AWCON 2016, and rest is history.
