Gisèle Mengue Thamar has secured her spot in the 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris, joining four other talented athletes from Cameroon.

The 30-year-old para powerlifter will compete in the heavyweight category, marking a significant milestone for Cameroonian sports on the international stage.

Born on May 7, 1992, Mengue Thamar has rapidly emerged as a rising star in the world of para powerlifting. Her journey includes participation in various competitions both at home and abroad. Notably, she has competed in the African Games in Brazzaville, the African Championship in Lagos (2019), the World Championship in Georgia (2021), and the Commonwealth Games (2022).

The Cameroon National Paralympic Committee (CNPC) expressed immense pride in Mengue Thamar’s achievement. They are confident that she will bring home a medal, reflecting the CNPC’s commitment to supporting and promoting para-athletes in Cameroon. Their dedication ensures that athletes like Mengue Thamar have the necessary resources and opportunities to excel in their respective sports.

In addition to Mengue Thamar, other qualified Cameroonian athletes include Tassi Marie Antoinette and Chemogne Teukam Guileine in Para Taekwondo, For Athletics Batifi Loumou Yves Noé in high jump, and Arlette Mawe Fokoa in weight throw.

This historic moment marks the first time that five Cameroonian athletes have received direct qualification to the Paralympic Games. The 2024 Paralympics are scheduled to take place from August 28 to September 8.
