  • LFFC has announced it has postponed the start date of the women’s second tier championship to March 2
  • The body says it’s decision is based on logistic realities faced by stakeholders.
  • All the clubs affiliated to participate in the championship haven’t obtained licenses

Cameroon Women’s Football managing body has announced its national second tier championships played per region will kick-off on March 2 and not on the previously established start date.

A Communiqué signed by the Women’s Football League of Cameroon (LFFC) secretary general, Sydonie Tagne on Saturday confirmed that the ten regions of the country will get their promotional regional championship which counts for the national competition from the above-mentioned date.

“The Cameroon women’s Football League managing body has taken note of your registration and we appreciate you. However, cognizant of the fact that no second tier club was ready to start the championship and in tandem with the competitions’ regulations of the Cameroon football federation (FECAFOOT), we have set March 2 as the start date of the championship,” a portion of the LFFC release read.

They further emphasized via the document that; “only clubs that will have at least 11 licenses will participate in the upcoming championship.”

The latest development is aimed at providing the over 80 affiliated clubs a little more time to ready themselves logistically for the championship after a pre-season control revealed all of the clubs had yet procured their licenses before the initial arranged start date.

Attention has switched to March 2 while clubs continue to process licenses to prevent another postponement.

The national second tier championship annually serves as a platform to battle for promotion into the second tier championship.

At the end of the regular championship, the ten regional champions compete in another mini tournament to produce two clubs that will graduate into the top-flight championship as it was the case with Dja Sports Academy of Meyomessala and Ita Mbong of Nkambe last season.

In the meantime, the national women’s top-flight championship is played every other weekend and FC Ebolowa is on a faithful chase of their maiden domestic championship title.
