Fauve Azur Elite recorded an impressive 2-1 victory against MTN Elite One defending champions Victoria United FC of Limbe this Sunday at the Ahmadou Ahidjo Omnisport Annex stadium in Yaoundé.

Goals from Jean Cluade Kameni and former Caen defender Aloys Fouda were enough for the boys of coach Gabriel Haman to get the better of the visitors whose consolatory penalty goal from Wilfred Nathan Douala.

Despite finishing the game with just ten players following the sending off of Fouda the Yaoundé outfit held on to bag all three and moved up to the sixth spot on the log with nine points, one behind fifth place Victoria United.

Early goals from Kameni and Fouda in the fourth and 13 minutes set the tone for a tough afternoon for the men from Limbe who had only lost to Panthere.

Despite leading by 2-0 Fauve Azur Elite didn’t take their feets off the penal as they enjoyed a majority of the possession and the ball spent more time in the Victoria United half.

The game host remained on top of their visitors till the interval in terms of their grip of the game.

However, Victoria United returned for the second segment looking better but had a mountain to climb in the city of seven hills.

When Nathan Doualla pulled one back from the penalty spot beating Gamale with 15 minutes left on the clock there was hope of rescuing a point but Fauve Azur held on to claim all three points as a sweet revenge of the animosity between the two clubs in the build up to last season’s playoffs competition.

Victoria United will look to bounce back against Fortuna of Mfou on Wednesday in Limbe while Fauve Azur will hope to keep the steam when they visit Stade Renard in Melong on the same day.
