Nigeria Premier Football League side, Bendel Insurance Football Club of Benin, on Wednesday defeated their junior side, Insurance FC Feeders 2-0 to lift the 2023 Edo FA Cup competition.
The Edo FA cup final match decided inside the remodeled Samuel Ogbemudia stadium in Benin city, had the two Bendel Insurance teams against each other for the second time consecutively, with divided loyalty among the Fans who came to see the encounter, as goals from team top scorer, Imade Osarenkhoe in the 10th minute and Sodje Stephens 68th minutes strike separated the men from the boys.
It would be recall that both teams also reached the finals and represented the state at the national level of the Federation cup last season.
The Coach Stanley Osazee managed Insurance Feeders team however showed brilliance with their style of play, but the strength and experience of the senior team made the difference.
On the road to the finals,the coach Monday Odigie led Benin Arsenals
started the 2023 Edo FA Cup campaigns with a 3-0 win over an amateur sides Etete FC and Yak FC respectively in the second round and quarter finals matches. The NPFL side went on to beat Youthful and hard fighting Eagle Wings Fc of Benin city 1-0 in the Semifinals.
On the part of Insurance FC Feeders, they defeated Konstanz Dike FC 1-0 in the second round before going ahead to stop Ine Stars 2-0 in the quarter finals and took out NLO side Rolly Fc 4-2 via kicks from the Penalty mark after a goaless encounter to reach their second consecutive FA cup finals against their big brothers Bendel Insurance FC
Earlier in the day, cup holders, Edo Queens fc of Benin city demolished nationwide league side Fortress ladies of Benin city by 8-0 to retain the title they won last year at the expense of Brave Heart ladies of Benin city.
However, Bendel Insurance Fc, insurance Fc Feeders, Edo Queens Fc and Fortress ladies will represent Edo state in the men and women category at the national level of the oldest Football competition in the world, the FA cup.
Present at the Edo FA cup finals, were the Edo state sports commission boss, Yusuf Ali, Edo FA chairman Comrade Roland Abu and some of his board members Dr Moses Aghedo, chairman organising committee of the 2023 Edo FA cup, Kindness Ohiowole, Out going Edo FA secretary, Elder Emmanuel Ajibola amongst others.
