- Despite challenges, Bamboutos FC looks forward to a fresh start in Douala’s football scene
Bamboutos FC of Mbouda, the 2022 Super Cup champions from Mbouda, is poised to move its base to Douala for the upcoming 2024/2025 football season, sources around the club have said.
Although the exact reason for the move hasn’t been explicitly stated, many believe it has been influenced by the team’s positive results in the blue and red side of Douala. Others speculate that the relocation aims to shield the club from ongoing internal conflicts.
Known for its large fan base, Bamboutos recently held its general assembly in Douala, providing further evidence of the impending move. On Saturday, July 20, the club’s management convened in Douala, where they approved a budget of about 160,000,000 FCFA. Officials explained that a significant portion of this budget will be allocated to player signings.
Despite their successes, Bamboutos FC continues to call out the Cameroon Football Federation for failing to honor financial commitments. The FA owes them approximately 112 million FCFA from subsidies and gate earnings.
Additionally, the club has highlighted specific amounts owed by the FA run by football legend Samuel Eto’o
15 million FCFA as a bonus for being the unfortunate finalist in the last edition of the Cameroon Cup. 50 million FCFA for winning the Super Cup trophy at the start of the 2022-2023 sports season
The 25 million FCFA for emerging as vice champions last season is still pending, so is the 1 million cfa won as the best fan club.
Furthermore, they emphasize that the remaining 8 million FCFA represents the subsidy promised by Fecafoot for this season. An additional 3 million FCFA accounts for revenue from wearing jerseys with the MTN brand, excluding Play-Offs earnings in Douala during 2023.
The page of last season has been turned, especially after the relegation scare, with plans in full swing on how to win one of the two domestic league titles.
Despite recent setbacks, Bamboutos remains one of Cameroon’s clubs with the largest supporter base. While games a decade ago used to draw thousands of supporters into the stadium, poor results and internal management issues have led to a decline in attendance in recent years.
Nevertheless, Bamboutos FC remains one of the most respected football structures in Cameroon’s top flight.
