Cameroonian referee Atezambong Carine Fomo has been included in FIFA’s all-female team of match officials appointed for the Round 1 fixture of the 2026 FIFA Women’s Champions Cup between Wuhan FC of China and Auckland United of New Zealand.

The match, scheduled for Wednesday, October 8, at the Wuhan Sports Centre Stadium, will be officiated by Moroccan referee Bouchra Karboubi, with Diana Chikotesha from Zambia serving as first assistant and Atezambong Carine Fomo from Cameroon as second assistant referee.

Shamira Nabadda from Uganda, who impressed at the last Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, will act as the fourth official, while Hamza El Fariq (Morocco) and Fatia Jeroumi (Morocco) have been designated as the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) and Assistant VAR, respectively.

The appointed officials are expected to arrive in China on Sunday, where they will take part in several training sessions organized by FIFA to prepare for the historic encounter.

This match marks a turning point in women’s football, as it will serve as the inaugural game of the FIFA Women’s Champions Cup.

The appointment of Carine and her colleagues by FIFA Director of Refereeing, Massimo Busacca, underlines the global body’s confidence in their abilities to deliver at the highest level.
