Malian champions, AS Mande played out a 1-1 draw with Dakar SC of Senegal to reclaim the 2023 West Africa Zone A (WAFU-A) Women’s Champions League Zonal Qualifiers title at the SKD Sports Complex, Liberia on Saturday.
The first half of the final match ended without a goal saving the main actions for the second period.
Oumou Kone had given Dakar SC the lead in the 51st minute which the Senegalese champions thought would be enough to win the title and seal qualification for the third edition of the CAF Women’s Champions League.
Star player, Korka Fall equalised for AS Mande at the hour mark to seal a draw and clinch the title for the Malian side.
With both sides tied on four points, AS Mande won the title and picked the Champions League ticket on superior goal difference after scoring four goals and conceding one in three games.
AS Mande’s Oumou Traore won the top goal scorer and Most Valuable Player award. Her goalkeeper, Fatoumata Karentao clinched the best goalkeeper prize.
Host and 2022 champions, Determine Girls won the Fair Play Award.
AS Mande will represent WAFU-A at the 2023 CAF Women’s Champions League In Ivory Coast.
The team became the third team to have qualified for the tournament after holders, ASFAR FC of Morocco and Athlético FC d’Abidjan of Ivory Coast.
