The energy of continental club football is palpable, but for individuals like Angu Lesley, a seasoned sports journalist turned CAF Media Officer, the current CAF Women’s Champions League UNIFFAC Qualifiers represent more than just a tournament; they mark a significant personal milestone.

Currently on assignment in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea, Lesley is celebrating his second Champions League tournament in his capacity as a CAF Media Officer, alongside his sixth UNIFFAC tournament overall.

Lesley, affectionately known as “Dr. Stats” by his colleagues for his meticulous approach and mastery of sports data, has experienced a profoundly charged year, highlighting his ascent as a key voice in African football.

A Year of zonal and Continental Engagements

His busy schedule kicked off with a major continental assignment, where he was involved in the TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN) PAMOJA. This landmark tournament, co-hosted by three East African nations (Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda) under the banner of “unity” (Pamoja in Swahili), saw Lesley playing a crucial role in managing media and communications for a competition that is exclusively for players plying their trade in their domestic leagues. It was his 3rd CHAN competition in-a-row.

The year has also seen him take his expertise to the North part of Africa. Lesley was invited to Morocco for an intensive 10-day programme organized by Quick Wit management, an initiative aimed at laying down the framework for the 2025 AFCON in December.

This commitment to continuous passing knowledge in one of Africa’s leading football nations was followed by a major speaking engagement. He solidified his status as a thought leader by serving as a keynote speaker in the Global Media Forum held in Rabat, Morocco.

Addressing an international audience, Lesley contributed his unique perspective on the challenges and opportunities for media coverage in the dynamic landscape of African sports.

Looking Ahead to AFCON 2025

Angu Lesley’s current assignment—his second women’s champions League tournament and sixth UNIFFAC regional event—comes at a pivotal time. With the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 scheduled to take place in Morocco, Lesley’s combination of continental experience (including CHAN PAMOJA), recent professional development in the host country, and his proven track record as a CAF Media Officer positions him as a key figure in the preparations.

As Africa’s largest football showpiece approaches, the expertise and seamless operation delivered by officials like Angu Lesley will be critical to ensuring AFCON 2025 is a global success both on and off the pitch. His personal milestones this year are not just a mark of individual achievement but a clear indicator of the rising standards of media professionalism in African football.
