Technical sponsor Le Cog Sportif has given a glimpse of what the Sasol-sponsored Banyana Banyana will be wearing at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup in July after they released a new alternate kit for both the women’s senior national team and Bafana Bafana.

This comes after Le Cog went public in a search to introduce new designs for the national teams.

KwaZulu Natal-born designer, Lwazi Ngcungama won the competition in November last year after being named in the top five, then top three.

His submissions included a jersey similar to the one Bafana Bafana wore when they lifted the 1996 Africa Cup of Nations title led by captain Neil Tovey.

At the time, the kit manufacturer said Ngcungama will work closed with the South African Football Association (SAFA) and Le Cog to deliver a final kit that is approved by FIFA.

After five months of waiting, the French company unveiled the jersey on Thursday, 27 April – to coincide with Freedom Day Celebrations in South Africa.

They have named the design The Legacy Jersey, and will launch all their new kits – including both home and away jerseys – on Friday (28 April).

Having qualified for the World Cup, which takes place in Australia and New Zealand in three months’ time, Banyana Banyana are set to be the first to don the new jersey.

They have been drawn in Group H alongside Sweden, Argentina and Italy – and this will be their second tournament in a row after participating at the 2019 edition in France, where they face Spain, China and Germany.
