African Volleyball championship: Defending champion-Cameroon books semi-final date with nine-time winner

The Volleyball Lionesses of Cameroon, Egypt, Kenya and the Amavubees of Rwanda are the semi finalists of the 2023 African Nations Women’s Volleyball Championship ongoing in Yaoundé.

Team Egypt were first to grab a ticket to this stage of the competition after a three sets to zero win over Uganda. Egypt are first to qualify for the semi-final.(25-13/25-18/25-11)

Emerging winner of this encounter, Egypt was set to face the winner of the match Rwanda vs Algeria and it would be Rwanda, who eliminated Algeria.

The Algerian women started on good footing in the first 2 sets, but Rwanda fought back, took the lead and eventually won the game.

Cameroon and Kenya picked up the last two tickets following victories over Morocco and Nigeria respectively.

Both nations won the games three sets to zero to reach the semis, setting up a meeting amongst themselves on Wednesday.

Team Cameroon Managed by Peter Nonnebroich who are defending Champions, have won this prestigious volleyball tournament a record three times and are looking forward to a fourth title, as they get to this stage unbeaten from day one.

Only Kenya left in this stage of the competition have won it tied most times than any other nation. They are nine time champions. At this stage, it’s either Cameroon defends and retains it’s title or Kenya grab their 10th but what is certain is that, one of these nations will not make it to the final.

Rwanda are getting right here for the very first time in the history of their participation. The country has never grabbed when a bronze medal but have made history by reaching the semis and will against a side who are three time winners of the tournament.

The semi final game between Cameroon and Kenya, have been programmed for Wednesday, August 23 at the Versatile sports palace-Yaoundé at 6pm.

Meanwhile Rwanda takes on Egypt at the Multipurpose center-Yaoundé at 4PM
