Tanzania’s national football team has grabbed the other available group F ticket to the 34th edition of the African Cup of Nations[AFCON] following a zero all draw in the last qualifying encounter against Algeria this Thursday, September 7.

A draw was just what Tanzania needed atleast against the Desert foxes to book a spot in the final of the competition next year.

Uganda however, beat Niger 2-0, but could only move up to 7points as they were hoping the Algeria vs Tanzania game worked in their favor. Unfortunately Algeria whom they counted on could not record a win against the opponent.

The boys of coach Djamel Belmadi qualified top of the group with 16 points and had already secured their place in the final of the competition before now, the 2nd country to book its ticket since March and had nothing to lose coming into this encounter with Tanzania.

Tanzania came into this game as second of the group with 7points following a 1:0 win over bottom place Niger in the last but one qualifying game hoping to make it to their 3rd AFCON final after making their first appearance in 1980 and their last in 2019, having failed to qualify for the 2021 AFCON in Cameroon.

They failed to make use of their chances in this encounter to get three points against algeria. The 90 minutes plus of play yielded no fruits. However, one point earned from this encounter has given them the chance of being amongst the 24 nations to compete go the title next year.

Tanzania qualifies 2nd of group F with eight points and picks up their 3rd ticket to Africa’s biggest set piece.
