Cameroon and Brentford winger, Bryan Mbeumo has been nominated for the premier league’s player for the month of August awards, following an excellent start of the season at club.

The 24-year-old has been nominated alongside, Rodri Hernandez of Manchester City, Brighton’s Kaoru Mitoma, Taiwo Awoniyi of Nottingham forest, Jarrod Bowen of West Ham and James Maddison of Tottenham Hotspur.

Mbeumo who is currently in the lions Den as summoned by head Coach to be part of Cameroon’s squad to face Burundi in the AFCON qualifier next week, has been one of the brains behind Brendford’s fair start to the 2023/24 football season.

He has been in top form since the start of the season, scoring three goals in the first three matches for Brentford to end the month of August unbeaten in the league.

Mbeumo scored Brentford’s first goal this season in a 2-2 draw against Totteham Hotspur and got his second and third goals of the month in a 3-0 victory over Fulham.

So far, he counts four premier league goals and four assists in five games. Just like Evan Ferguson, Mbeumo is second top scorer of the 2023-24 English Premier League, two goals behind Erling Haaland who is top scorer but not nominated for the award.

Mbeumo is gradually turning to a prolific goal machine and a very instrumental player at attack for Brentford who seat 8th on the league table with six points from one win and three draws.

The other African Nominees, Nigeria’s Awoniyi, has provided Nottingham Forest with three goals in their opening three games. The 26-year-old extended his scoring streak to seven consecutive league games.

The other nominees, Jarrod Bowen, ended the month of August with two goals and an assist. James Maddison scored once and provided two assists. Kaoru Mitoma scored one goal and two assists. While City’s midfielder Rodri, has already recorded two goals and one assist in August.

According to the league organizers, the winner of this award will be announced next week.
