Nigeria’s senior men’s national team recorded a 2-0 win over their Cameroon counterparts at the Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium, Abidjan to seal a place in the quarter final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) on Saturday.

Semi Ajayi thought he had given the Super Eagles the lead in the ninth minute when the ball rebound and arrived at the feet of Ajayi just outside the box. He doesn’t think twice and fired a brilliant shot inside the right post. His attempt was beyond the reach of Fabrice Ondoa.

Unfortunately, the referee looked satisfied after his Video Assistant Referee (VAR) review and duly disallowed the goal for offside.

The three time African champions respite finally came in the 36th minute as Victor Osimhen showed great vision to find Ademola Lookman with a cheeky pass inside the box, and his first-time shot was precise and sailed into the right side of the goal.

Lookman had the chance to double the lead for the West African side in the 56th minute from a close range free kick. His decent attempt flew narrowly over the crossbar.

Ola Aina in the 86th minute collecteed a pass and find himself in a good position to strike from the edge of the box, but his attempt was blocked.

The doubler finally came in the additional minutes of the second half. Calvin Bassey located Lookman with a clever pass. He stepped inside his man on the edge of the box and whipped a tremendous shot into the right side of the goal.

The Super Eagles will face Angola in the quarter final at the same stadium in Abidjan.
