As Cameroon gets set to face Nigeria in the knockout stage of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), the interfering role of the Federation of Cameroon Football (FECAFOOT) President has come to the fore.
In a bid to separate the role of coach from that of Federation President, Song specified his expectations at the tournament.
He therefore clarified his role and that of his former teammate who is now in charge of the Cameroon Football Federation.
“I mean I take responsibility for everything happening during the tournament. We remain concentrated and focused on our objective,” Song told journalists in Abidjan on Friday.
“The President is the president of the Federation and he is doing his duty to know what is happening. He is doing his job with passion.
“I have the responsibility to report to him. He is not imposing responsibility on me. I won’t say there is any confusion.
“When we lose games, I take the responsibility. We also have the responsibility to report to him.”
Eto’o has been on ground in Cote d’Ivoire to monitor and watch games of the Indomitable Lions at AFCON 2023.
He is expected to be at the Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium, Abidjan, on Saturday to watch the Round of 16 clash between Cameroon and Nigeria.
