The Elephants of Côte D’Ivoire have arrived Yamoussoukro for their Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2023 eighth final game against the defending champions – the Teranga Lions of Senegal.

Coach Fae Emerse and his team arrived at their country’s political capital late Friday evening and immediately moved to their base at the Hotel de Depute where they will camp till they play against the Teranga Lions on Monday and beyond should they qualify.

Côte D’Ivoire sneaked into the last 16 of the tournament after Morocco beat Zambia in the last group stage game to condemn their qualification chances and allow the West Africans with three points to qualify as one of the four third best placed teams.

Côte D’Ivoire’s return to the competition and arrival in Yamoussoukro has been greeted with excitement though it’s unclear how the team will react following the dismissal of coach Jean-Louis Gasset reportedly on the request of the players.

Côte D’Ivoire versus Nigeria will kick-off at 8pm on Monday, January 28 at the 20 000 capacity Charles Konan Banny stadium in Yamoussoukro and the winner of the contest will face the winner of the clash between Burkina Faso and Mali in one of the other eight finals.
