Mali have picked up three points against The Gambia in Match day three of the African Cup of Nations qualifier(AFCON) at the March 26 stadium in Bamako, Mali this Friday, courtesy of goals from Doumbia Kamory and Adana Traoré.

The Malians took the lead three minutes into the game, thanks to a goal from Reims midfielder, Doumbia, sending a beautiful strike to the back of Gaye’s net.

Several attempts at goal by Gambian attackers to get an equalizer were futile. A glaring opportunity from a cross was sent over the bar.

Doumbia’s early goal saw both sides seperate for the break on a 1-0 scoreline.

The 1-0 lead was kept until deep into added time when Adama Traoré converted a penalty to seal a 2-0 win for Mali, following a careless foul in the box.

Gambia came into this encounter to challenge a side who have been among the best performers and favourites so far to qualify from their group.

Mali will be hoping to make a thirteenth participation at the continent’s biggest football showpiece in Ivory Coast next year.

This victory take Mali’s returns to three consecutive wins, eight goals scored and just one conceded.

The match day four clash has been scheduled for Tuesday, March 28 as Mali will travel to challenge host, the Gambia.

Mali currently sit top of group G with nine points, six points away from The Gambia who are last in the group with only three points.
