François Kamano and Mohamed Lamine Bayo were on target as Guinea thump Ethiopia 3-0 in match day three of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers this Friday.

The hundred of Silly National fans who turned out at the Mohammed V stadium had an unforgettable experience as Liverpool’s Keita led his nation to earn a massive win in their quest to reach Cote D’Ivoire next year.

Guinea started the game on the front foot with Kamano, Bayo joined their starman Keita in animation of the forward movements for coach Kaba Diawara.

Keita had the first chance of the contest as early as the 12th minute but his effort on target was pushed away by Habtamu Aregawi on goal for the Walia Ibex of Ethiopia.

Guinea dominated and the next chance fell to Kamano who received a through ball from Lille’s Bayo. The latter’s lob bounced off the frame of the goal to keep the score goalless.

Webetu Abate’s Ethiopia settled on the option to suck pressure and break on the counter. It nearly paid in the 29th Kenean Markneh had a run at the Guinea defense with time and space. Unfortunately he was stopped before the final third.

In the other end, Kamano was rewarded for his effort in the 39 minute as he received a square ball from Valencia’s Iliax Moriba which he directed into the top right side of Habtamu’s net.

Keita forced a safe from the busy Ethiopian keeper before the break as it stayed 1-0 for the hosts till the pause.

Both sides traded misses upon resumption with Kamano’s 64th minute opportunity being the closest of the half.

Bayo doubled the advantage for the hosts in the 73rd minute, after benefiting from an assist from Morlaye Sylla who had just come on for Moriba.

The game finished 2-0, handing Guinea a second victory in three outings.

The West Africans moved up to second in the group, though with the same six points as Egypt who defeated Malawi in the other group game in Cairo.

Ethiopia are bottom of the group ahead of their match four outing against Guinea at the Complexe Sportif Prince Moulay Abdellah stadium in Rabat on Monday.
