A supporter of the Black Stars of Ghana has been in police custody in Cote D’Ivoire after he assaulted Ghana’s coach Chris Hughton following the Black Stars.

The Black Stars of Ghana suffered a shocking defeat to Cape Verde in their Group B opener in the AFCON.

Jamiro gave Cape Verde the lead early in the match before Djiku equalized for Ghana. But a late goal from Garry Rodriguez gave Cape Verde all three points.

After the defeat, an unidentified Ghanaian supporter in Abidjan attacked the head coach Chris Hughton at the teams hotel.

According to Ghanian journalist Saddick Adams, it took the intervention of some Ghanaian diplomats to prevent the supporter from injuring the coach as the supporter was handed to the police.

Ghana will continue their AFCON expedition on Thursday January 18, 2024 against Egypt who were forced to a two all draw by Mozambique.
