Six shots to five against Djiko FC de Bandjoun in post-match penalties propelled Canon Sportive into another Cup of Cameroon eight final on Sunday at the Reunification Annex stadium in Douala.
The Kpakum, who had been unconvincing in regular playtime managed to drag Djiko to penalties thanks to an Emmanuel Mahop’s equalizer deep into extra time.
Adama Amada had earlier given the West region side the lead after numerous scoring efforts. A clean shot at goal with three minutes left in stoppage time, but the lack of concentration will cost them as much as the eighth final ticket.
Djiko had a more commanding presence over Canon across 90 minutes. Winger Tresor Romaris Mbengue put up a steeler performance, troubling goalkeeper Mbaynaissem before his substitution in the 88th minute of play.
Opponents Canon also had their fair chance at goal. Ngon Marius, Yves Zoa, and Dooh Moukoko, resurrected from suspension for this encounter, tempted Sadjo Eric a number of times, but the goal had to come from the league’s highest goal scorer, Emmanuel Mahop.
In the post-match shootouts, keeper Sadjo Eric will save Canon Sportive’s fourth strike from Emmanuel Mahop before slotting his to give Djiko the advantage.
A shortlived lead, as Arthur Eric’s feeble strike will be sent out by Canon’s keeper.
The winning shot for Kpakum came from the captain of the day, Alexandre Fouda, as Adama Amada saw his shot hit the post.
