Flying Eagles on Thursday edged its Ugandan counterparts 1-0 in the quarter-final of 2023 U-20 African Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Ibrahim Juma’s first-half own goal settled the contest despite Uganda’s impressive second-half display.

Ibrahim Muhammad’s effort inside the box hit the post before touching Juma into the back of the net.

Uganda came out in the second half in search of an equaliser which didn’t come.

The defeat ended Uganda’s unbeaten run at the tournament as the team crashed out.

Nigeria progressed to the semi-final of the U-20 AFCON and most importantly qualified for the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Indonesia.

The record champions at the AFCON U-20 level have made it to the final of the FIFA U-20 World Cup twice losing on both occasions to Portugal and Argentina and will hope to win the World title in Indonesia.
