Cameroon international Christopher Wooh was on the scoresheet as FC Spartak Moscow secured a dramatic 4–3 victory over FC Akron Tolyatti at the Otkritie Arena on Monday.
Wooh struck in the 41st minute to give Spartak breathing space in a pulsating contest in Moscow, marking another notable contribution from the Indomitable Lions defender in Russia.
The visitors had taken an early lead through M. Boldyrev in the 18th minute before Spartak responded five minutes later when P. Solari levelled the score in the 23rd minute.
Spartak’s momentum grew as Wooh rose to the occasion just before the break, finding the net in the 41st minute to put the hosts 2–1 ahead. The Moscow side extended their advantage in stoppage time of the first half when C. Martins Pereira scored to make it 3–1.
Akron Tolyatti refused to back down after the restart. G. Tavares converted from the penalty spot in the 57th minute before Boldyrev grabbed his second of the night in the 62nd minute to draw the visitors level at 3–3.
But Spartak had the final say. Marquinhos struck in the 88th minute to settle the encounter and hand the hosts all three points in a thrilling seven-goal affair.
Spartak dominated large spells of the game, enjoying 64% possession and registering 15 shots, eight of them on target, compared to Akron’s eight attempts.
For Wooh, the goal continues a positive run for the 23-year-old centre-back, who is increasingly becoming an important figure for Spartak both defensively and during attacking set pieces.
