Cameroon: Samuel Eto’o’s FECAFOOT excludes Referees’ Association

The General Assembly of the Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT) has approved the request to exclude the Cameroon Referees Association led by Alioum Siddi barely weeks after the ‘men in black’ announced an indefinite strike action engineered by non-payment of their dues.

The move was triggered by a request made by president Bikek Louis of the Littoral Regional League of FECAFOOT to the General Assembly asking for the Alioum- led Association to be disbanded.

For starters, the Cameroon Association of Football Referees (ACAF) had declared an indefinite suspension of all officiating activities across domestic competitions organized by the Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT), effective Monday, April 21, 2025.

The decision, announced by ACAF’s National President, Alioum Siddi was supposed to impact referees and assistant referees involved in the Professional Elite One and Elite Two Championships, the Women’s First Division Championship, regional and Division leagues, as well as futsal and beach soccer tournaments.

The move was made in response to unresolved financial disputes, primarily centered on unpaid allowances totaling approximately 300 million CFA francs (roughly $500,000) accumulated over four seasons, including the ongoing 2024–2025 campaign.

In a strongly worded directive, ACAF urged its members to remain vigilant, resolute, and unified, emphasizing that referees must resist “any form of pressure, manipulation, intimidation, or blackmail” from third parties seeking to undermine the strike.

Unfortunately the Federation has settled for the creation of another association to speak on behalf of Referees.

The decision to remove the Referees Association from the FECAFOOT general assembly and have it replaced by a different body has sparked outrage on social media with some likening it to dictatorship, especially as the Cameroon Professional footballers syndicate (SYNAFOC) was disbanded and replaced by another.
