Having come to terms with the fact that Cameroon will not make it to Morocco for the U23 African Cup of nations(AFCON), Guy Feutchine has released the boys in camp this June 21.

The Lions were still at the camping ground even after the decision to cancel their chance of making it to the 4th edition of the competition in place of Gabon.

Nine locals retained in the Lions den, were hoping to experience this tournament for the first time, alongside ten other players summoned who ply their trades abroad, to defend the colors of the nation.

Unfortunately, Cameroon’s appeal against Gabon’s qualification was rejected by the Court of Arbitration for Sports, confirming Gabon’s place in the tournament scheduled to begin on June 24-July 8, 2023.

Having lost to Gabon on post match penalties at home after a one all aggregate tie, Cameroon’s football federation filed a protest, questioning the identity of Gabonese player Floriss Djave.

The Confederation of African football had confirmed Cameroon will replace Gabon and be intergrated in the latter’s group(Grp B) not until TAS overturned this decision on June 20.

Cameroon were hoping to make a second appearance in this competition which doubles as qualifiers for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, having made their debut in 2019.
