2023 Olympic AFCON: Nine retained, 21 home-based sent home

Nine home-based players have been retained by coach Guy Feutchine out of the 30 summoned to prepare for the 2023 U23 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.

After being in camp for two weeks, only nine players convinced coach Guy and have been retained as part of the squad to be completed by abroad based players.

Vice Champions of Cameroon, Bamboutos FC of Mbouda dominate the list of players retained. All three players initially called up are part of the final squad that will represent Cameroon in Morocco.

Goalkeeper Idrissou Nfor of Colombe sportive, Atsama Franck and Dipoto Maurice Bill and Bieleu Benjamin from Bamboutos FC, Astres’ Ivan Cabrel Djantou join Avom Arthur and Saidou Ibrahim from Fauve Azur. Cameroon champions Cotonsport is represented by Abdouraman Daman Bouba and Aziz Bassane.

The players maintain in the den will be joined by the likes of Etienne Etoo, Enzo Tchato, Driss Nasser, Benjamin Elliot Njongoue, Samuel Kotto, Franck Mbelle Etouga, Yvan Cedric Bikoue, Simon Ngapandouetbu, Regis Mughe, Steve Mvoue, Brice Ambina who ply their trade abroad.

Cameroon outsmarted Gabon off the pitch to make it to the 4th edition of the AFCON, scheduled to take place in Morocco from June 24 to July 8.

Having won a case against Gabon after CAF found errors were made in the process of registration of Floriss Djave.

Cameroon will replace Gabon in the tournament and have been integrated in group B of the competition alongside Mali, Egypt and Niger.
