The 2023 edition of the Mount Cameroon Test Race in Buea has been programmed for January 21 as officials of the Regional Bureau of Athletics say everything is in place for a smooth event.

The athletes will run from the Molyko Omnisport Stadium to the New Hut and back. Last year, Ndifon Pamela won in the female category with 3hrs2sec while South West favourite Lyonga Essombe won in the male category.

“The South West Region is very prepared and we want to run the Test Race in a very different mood. In the Yesteryears, we use to run the Test Race in Buea like a mini mountain race that sets the tone for the mountain race to come, except that when it was changed that all the ten regions were going to have their test race,” said Eteki Njoh, Project Manager of the Mount Cameroon Race who also doubles as the Regional President of Athletics.

Ndifon Pamela won the test race last year in the female category with 3hrs2sec

“This year, we are going to ask all the athletes from far and wide to join us on January 21 to do the test race in Buea,” Eteki Njoh added while indicating that athletes will do their medical with the Federation’s doctors with a medical certificate from the Federation already produced.

Registration for the Test Race has already commenced at the Regional Federation with the tracks of the mountain being cleared. “We have already met with partners that are going to be supporting us during the test race, and the tracks of the mountain are being cleared to make it easy for the athletes. We are calling on all athletes to register here in our office, pay and have their medicals signed by our doctors and pay their registration (FCFA 1,000) and their license for FCFA 3,000,” Eteki Njoh, Project Manager of the Mount Cameroon Race said.

It should be noted that the 28th edition of the Mount Cameroon Race has been scheduled for February 25 in Buea. The launch of the race will be on February 24 and is expected to feature the Minister of Sports and Physical Education, Prof Narcisse Mouelle Kombi.
