Getafe CF held on for a 2–1 victory over Girona FC at the Coliseum Alfonso Pérez on Friday night, with Cameroonian midfielder Yvan Neyou playing a late but important role in securing the points for José Bordalás’ side.

In a tense encounter, the first half offered few clear opportunities for either team. Girona’s Joel Roca and Viktor Tsygankov tested David Soria from distance, while Getafe’s best moments came from set-piece situations—an area that would later prove decisive.

After the restart, Getafe gradually took control. The introduction of Mario Martín at half-time paid off handsomely when he rose to head home a Luis Milla corner in the 72nd minute, capping sustained pressure that saw the hosts dominate dead-ball situations, winning the corner count 8–3.

The home fans were celebrating again in the 86th minute when Alejandro San Cristóbal combined with Borja Mayoral, who finished calmly from inside the box to double the lead.

As Girona pushed for a response, Cristhian Stuani converted a 90+4th-minute penalty—awarded after a VAR review—to set up a nervy finish. It was then that Yvan Neyou was introduced, with Bordalás turning to the Cameroonian for his composure and defensive awareness to help preserve the advantage.

Neyou’s short cameo was marked by efficiency: he broke up play, drew a foul deep in Girona’s half, and maintained possession at key moments as Getafe ran down the clock to seal the win.

The result builds on Getafe’s recent away triumph at Athletic Bilbao and solidifies their position in mid-table. For Neyou, the brief but composed display was another reminder of his growing trust within the squad—a player Bordalás can rely on to steady the ship when the stakes are high.

It was a night of resilience and fine margins—and for Yvan Neyou, a contribution that mattered when it counted most.
