Newcomers, Gazelle FA of Garoua say they are not in the 2023 MTN Elite One title playoffs to add up the number.

The upcoming North Region giants pulled a surprise this season by only sailing through to the playoffs and leading the group in flying colors as top of Pool B, ahead of Bamboutos FC.

Defense man, Joel Djondang during the pre-match press conference ahead of their first ever playoff, confidently outlined their objectives.

“We did not get this far by chance. We worked hard and it paid off. We have been ambitious from the very start, so we are ready for the this last phase of the competition,” Joel said.

Knowing a difficult task lies ahead especially against defending champions Cotonsport, the defender remained positive and assured they are ready for the task.

“Yes, we will play against a big brother, but this is a competition and we are not here to joke. They may be defending champions, but nothing stops us from emerging victorious which I am certain we will. We are ready,” He added.

Gazelle has had quite an impressive season, recording 10 wins, five draw and five defeats in 20 games played. They finished top of pool B with 35 points.

The club rose to Elite level two seasons back from the North regional league. They secured promotion to the second tier championship and then got promoted to the top-flight championship last season.

Their consistency is what has earned them a place in the last four and Gazelle seems ready to pull the same suprise Sable de Batie did in 1999, by gaining promotion and becoming champions of Cameroon.

The club has got a good number of prolific players and national team keeper at goal, Mbahbi Marcelin who has represented the country’s A’ team and senior national team recently.

It will be a tough first battle between a consistent and ambitious Gazelle side, and holders who experience a difficult season, but fortunately made it to the playoffs.

Gazelle face Cotonsport of Garoua this Sunday in the first game programmed at the Reunification stadium Bepanda,Douala.

In the second game, Bamboutos FC of Mbouda challenge 11-time winners Canon Yaounde.
