WAFU-A Women’s Tournament: Senegal dances into semi final

Holders, Senegal secured a place in the semi-final of the 2023 West Africa Zone A (WAFU-A) Women’s Tournament on Monday.

The Teranga Lionesses defeated Gambia 4-1 to confirm qualification into the semi-final with a match to spare.

The West African side which still has a chance of featuring at this year’s FIFA Women’s World Cup through the Playoffs Tournament had won its first Group B game, thrashing Guinea 4-0.

In the second game on Monday, Habsatou Malado Diallo scored all four goals to lead Senegal to a 4-1 win.

As early as the second minute of play, she opened the scoring before Cathrina Jatta equalised for Gambia in the additional minutes of the first half.

In the second half, Habsatou scored three goals to hand her side a comfortable win.

Senegal will face eliminated Sierra Leone in the final group game.

Sierra Leone had lost its first two group games to Gambia (4-1) and Guinea (1-0).
