Stephane Ndzana explains why Lekie were unable to beat Fortuna

Lekie Filles were held to a 1-1 draw by Fortuna Ladies, although after 12 games they remain unbeaten

Stephane Ndzana credited a failure to be precise in the final third caused by the mid season break as the reason why Lekie Filles left the FECAFOOT Technical Center with just a point, rather than three, on Sunday.

Lekie were expected to complete a double against a Fortuna side they beat in they beat reversed fixture, but were left frustrated as the visitors made the aspiring champions pay for their wastefulness in front of goal.

Lekie Filles failed to display their regular fluidity in front of goal but Tabe Brenda Ebika opened the scoring after just six minutes of play as Lekie looked sharper and hungrier in the beginning.

However, the likes of Ngah Manga, Tantoh Melvis and even Raissa Nnanga failed to make the most of the opportunities Lekie created and ten minutes into the second segment Fortuna equalised through Christian Kiki Meva.

It was not objectively a bad performance from Lekie – far from it – but for large swathes of the game their play lacked its usual slickness and clinical edge. Speaking after the game coach Ndzana was fairly pleased with his team’s efforts, but was frustrated by their sloppy finishing.

“I always remain calm even during the game. I am surprised that there is frustration from some people because this is a league game like others.

“We have played our first game of the second round and not won but were not defeated,” Ndzana said.

“It’s important than we note that the players spent some time without playing together. We had difficulties in the placement of the forwards. Generally we play in the 4-3-3 but today we played in 4-4-2 because one of our wingers is sick. I think this had an impact on our tactical placement.

Asked whether the result affects their maiden Guinness Super League hopes, Ndzana said he wasn’t surprised.

“We have to be calm, focus and prepare for our next game. I am not afraid of competition.”
