  • Mbia was skipper of Cameroon at AFCON 2008 and is widely respected back at home

  • He has joined Micheal Ngadeu and Alexandre Song on the list of ex-internationals investing in education

Former Indomitable Lions of Cameroon skipper, Stephane Mbia Etoundi,37, has switched his attention to investment in education while completing his sports management studies.

On Wednesday, October photos of the ex-Premier League star’s latest line of business – being the ultra moderate ‘complex Educatif Stephane Mbia’ surfaced on social media, attracting praises from all and sundry.

According to our findings, the investment located at the Ahala neighborhood in Yaoundé is home of over a hundred pupils on the path of obtaining proper primary school education provided by the one-time Stade Rennes and Olympique Marseille midfielder.

The spacious facility located a few meters from the main road went operational last month, but is already the main attraction for most parents seeking proper education for their children.

Mbia enjoyed a glittering football career that lasted 19 years, and took him from the Kadji Sports Academy in Douala -Cameroon to Rennes and later Marseille through 12 clubs in Cameroon, France, Spain, England, Turkey, China among others.

The box-to-box midfielder, who scored five goals in 68 appearances for Cameroon – including a brace against Tunisia at the quarter-final of the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in the running to the final didn’t show signs of interest in investment in education but has made a strong start barely months after retirement.

Mbia, winner of two UEFA Europa League trophies with Sevilla joins the likes of Alexandre Song and Micheal Ngadeu on the list of ex internationals making a living out of education as they add value to the lives of young Cameroonians.

Besides the above-mentioned, Mbia has recently rendered service to CAF as consultant during the 2022 African Nations Championship (CHAN) in Algeria and UEFA during the 2023/24 UEFA Europa League group stage draw.
