The indomitable lions of Cameroon are out of the 2022 FIFA World Cup ongoing in Qatar, but continue to grab headlines on daily basis, but probably for a bad reason.

The aftermath of Cameroon’s one_zero defeat to Switzerland on November 24, was marred by one of the biggest world cup controversies, when news leaked that Inter Milan’s Andre Onana, was suspended by Cameroon just few hours to the kick-off of their second group G game against Serbia on November 29.

Indeed Onana was left out of the 3_3 draw against Serbia, with Devis Epassy starting at goal. Later on, the Cameroon Football Federation explained that Onana has been suspended for disciplinary reasons, a decision which they say was taking by coach Rigobert Song.

Onana later on left Qatar for Yaounde, though he explained in an official communiqué on November 29 that he tried finding a solution but the other party was not willing to collaborate.

“I have put all my efforts and energy into finding solutions to a situation that a footballer often experience but there has been no will on the other side,” Onana wrote.

Cameroon went on to win their last group game against Brazil, of course without Onana, summing up to the indomitable lions best performance at the world cup since the year 2002.

Fresh Twist

Song and Onana are now providing contradictory truth about same incident, a situation that cast more confusion into Cameroonian hearts. Both Song and goalkeeper Andre Onana seems to be taking the battle of biggest secrets to social media.

On Thursday morning, a video made rounds on Social media in which Rigobert Song appears to be explaining to an unidentified individual the exact situation that let to Onana’s exit from the lions den.

‘It wasn’t a big problem. In training, he does his one man show. I call him, I tell him, it’s a risk! Let’s play the balls on the side, it’s easier on the side. He gets angry, and says I shouldn’t talk to him anymore. That’s the whole problem,” song said in the Video which seemingly was filmed without his approval.

“I say but, I talk to Aboubakar, Choupo-Moting, Zambo-Anguissa, the brains of the team. Who are you even for me not to speak to. I stopped training,” song added.

‘I asked everyone to go the locker room. Firstly, he spoiled my training session. The president was in the stands and saw all what happened. On our return to the hotel, instead of talking to me, he went to see the president. The president sent him parking…’ Rigobert Song is heard telling the unidentified individual in the video.

Barely hours after Song’s video went viral, Onana took to his social media handles and send a cryptic message.

“In a world where lying is the most common thing, telling the truth makes you a revolutionary. But in the end, time will put everything in its place,” Onana wrote at 9am on Thursday.

Who is saying the truth and who’s lying is what has got Cameroonians more confused as both parties continue to feed the public with Contradictory truth about the same incident.

One thing is clear, Onana has never really stated his own version of truth on why he was sent home prematurely from the world cup. Even his communiqué of November 29, did not explain further.

Many Cameroonians and football lovers have been left with a lot of guess work to do, and perplexed on who to believe, as multiple versions of the Song Vs Onana saga continues to flood the Social media.
