Four months back on 3rd September 2022, the day Enock Walusimbi signed his first pro contract at Scottish league one side Peterhead FC, is one he’ll always live to remember.

After two seasons at Express FC where in his first season, he captained them to a league and the CECAFA Kagame cup double, Walusimbi chose Europe after a tour in Spain with a selected team of players termed, ‘team fundi’.

The 24 year old versatile defender, now at Scottish League One side Peterhead FC is definitely living his dream, at least according to what he exclusively told Football256.

“First, it’s a dream come true for me to play at this level because we (Ugandan players) look forward to such opportunities to prove ourselves,” Walusimbi revealed.

“But it’s been very difficult since I arrived, first the weather because it’s too cold here yet I was used to the Ugandan weather.”

“Also it took a while for me to get my work permit but, I had to acclimatize and be patient, but I’ve settled in well,” he noted.

Back home, ‘Lucio’ knows a player can get away with lacking a few basics but not in Scotland because you have to adjust to fit in.

“I would say how we play in Uganda is different from what I found here because the game is fast and physical.”

“But also, you have got to have positional sense, the ball work has to be on point and you have to read game situations so I’ve definitely adjusted a lot,” he added.

The former Soltilo Bright Stars and Express defender also reveals he is focused on staying in Europe when his one year deal expires.

“It’s my prayer that I get more playing time so that I gain more experience and settle in well during my one year here, because it’s important for me to stay in Europe,” he revealed.

A hamstring injury has limited Walusimbi to seven appearances in a season where the blue toon sit bottom of the Cinch Scottish League One table and Enock affirms it hasn’t been a good show.

“The team is not doing well but we keep giving our all, my hamstring injury pegged me back as well. However, I am hopeful we shall turn the corner,” he softly responded.

With four Cranes caps to his name already, Walusimbi is hopeful of earning more national team call-ups as he remains grateful to compatriot Sadat Anaku for the support in Scotland.

“It’s always an honor to wear the Cranes shirt and I look forward to that again. I also want to appreciate Sadat Anaku for always fighting on as well, we encourage each other to persevere amidst the challenges.”

Anaku formerly featured for KCCA FC before moving to Dundee United in the Scottish premiership.
