Following the release of the contract document between Coton Sport and Orlando pirates concerning the signing of striker Marou Souaibou by the latter, there is now doubt about whether or not the contract will finally be sealed.

This follows a statement from Elite football agent Mike Makaab, who according to reports has been brokering the deal between the two clubs. Makaab told Gagasi FM as quoted by GOAL, “The statement that was released, was released prematurely because the deal hasn’t been concluded. And we are very annoyed, and I know Orlando Pirates is very annoyed because that’s not the way the Chairman operates.”

“And somewhere along the line, a source within the club or someone connected to a source within Coton Sport has released the details of the deal and that’s not how Orlando Pirates work and it’s not how we work as a professional agency.”

21-year-old Souaibou won the 2022 Cameroon footballer of the year and scored 21 goals in all competitions for Coton Sport last season. That feat saw the player selected in Cameroon’s squad at the FIFA Qatar World cup, though he failed to play in any of the Indomitable Lion’s three games.

The deal as seen on the document that was circulated online shows Orlando Pirates has offered $200,000 (R3,5 million) to sign the Cameroonian international. It was also reported that Souaibou will be joining his new team come to the January transfer window. However, that may now be an issue.

“So, the deal hasn’t been done, I can assure you and the chances are that a deal won’t be done. Based on the fact that it was released in a very unprofessional manner, we are not sure where we go from here. I will be engaging with the Chairman [Irvin Khoza],” Mike Makaab added.
