Pierre Kunde Malong has completed a switch to Astromitos FC, from fellow Greek Super League side Olympiakos which owns his services till the summer of 2024.
The Cameroon international was unveiled as an Astromitos player on Tuesday afternoon, after the club agreed a deal to pay a loan fee and cause another season away from his parent club.
The switch means Kunde, who spent last season on at German Bundes Liga side VFL Bochum will have another season away from his parent club as part of efforts to enjoy regular football.
“I’m definitely very happy that everything went well in the end. It all happened very suddenly, but I wanted to be happy, in an environment and in a cabin that everyone told me was like a family,” Kunde stated.
The midfielder who is yet to feature this season then thanked his new employers for the new opportunity.
“I would like to thank everyone at Atromitos for managing to complete this difficult deal after the transfer deadline and now I want to live up to the trust they have placed in me,” Kunde added.
The 28-year old former Mainz SV box-to-box midfielder is the 16th new player made available for Welshman coach Chris Coleman ahead of the rest of the Greek Super League season.
By adding Kunde, who made 12 appearances in the Bundes Liga last season, the three-time Greek second tier championship champions are building a team which will be competitive enough to help them reach at least the title playoffs in the Super League championship this season.
Astromitos have agreed to pay a loan fee to Olympiakos, who will pay the player’s salary per the contract signed when he joined Olympiakos.
Astromitos is Kunde’s ninth club in the journeyman career which started over a decade ago at Best Stars Academy of Limbe.
The Cameroon international is expected to work hard and get into the team, so as to enhance his chances of returning to the national team, ahead of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament early next year in Côte D’Ivoire.
Kunde has joined the rest of the squad in training and could make his debut on Monday when bottom side Astromitos host Volos FC in match day three of the Greek top-flight championship.
