Kevin Soni completes Rapid switch

Romanian side Rapid Bucuresti have completed the signing of potent Cameroonian forward, Kevin Olivier Soni, after he penned a two-year contract with the club.

Soni, who has been a free agent since leaving Hatayspor a few months ago completed medical formalities for the switch and signed the deal on Tuesday.

The 25-year-old former Girona and Villarreal CF forward will start a new life at his 11th professional club hoping to leave a lasting impression during his first coming to Romanian football.

The ‘globetrotter’ forward is one of 16 new additions at the club this season, as the three-time domestic champions build a squad to end their 20-years wait for a next domestic triumph.

The Railwaymen already have the former Pau FC and Bordeaux man in training, having joined the club in the course of the season.

Soni could make his debut as early as this Saturday when coach Christiano Bergodi’s team travels to Otelul Galati, to confront Oțelul FC on match day nine of the domestic championship.

Rapid currently sits third in the league standings, but have been impressive enough to be considered outsiders in the title race, especially if Soni hits the ground running from the off.

A good run for club will enhance Soni’s chances of returning to the national team, weeks before the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Côte D’Ivoire.
